Does your family have a certain author or illustrator you just love? For my family, it’s definitely Mo Willems. Knuffle Bunny, Gerald, Piggie… My kids love all his well-known characters. But their absolute favorite is by far the Pigeon. If you have some Pigeon-loving kiddos as well, this Pigeon story time was created for you! Read on to peek inside some of our favorite books from the series, and grab some math worksheets inspired by that silly blue bird!
SUPER SILLY MATH AT PIGEON STORY TIME
Reading Mo Willems’ Pigeon Series
My family has pretty much been obsessed with Mo Willems’ work since #thebigone was very young. His fifth birthday party even had a Mo Willems’ theme! It seemed natural to put together a Pigeon story time for my kiddos. Mo Willems’ famous series features a stubborn, independent Pigeon who wants to try everything! Through simple text, Willems essentially speaks to his young readers. He requests that they make sure the Pigeon head to bed, or take a bath, while the Pigeon ‘argues’ his case. My boys have always loved answering back to the Pigeon, and laughing at his antics. Willems’ illustrations are minimal and cartoon-y, which makes them approachable for budding artists to recreate. Be sure to check out the shop this post link towards the end of the post to see many books available in this series!
Math Practice With The Pigeon
We lovingly call #thebigone ‘Math Man’ at home. If somethine has to do with numbers, he’s excited about it. I created these fun free printables especially for his Pigeon story time. Your little mathematicians will love them too. The printables are super simple. Many young students can work through the independently, making them great for busy mamas! The activity is perfect practice for identifying numbers 1-100, following directions, and also reading some basic color sight words.

This is pretty logic. When it comes to Math homework with my son which he is in 4th grade. I just want to cry because it’s been so long since I’ve been in school and I can’t even do 4th grade math haha…
